The Kelly Klosure building was engineered to replace an aging structure that no longer provided adequate protection for critical electrical equipment. Designed with durability, flexibility, and long-term functionality in mind, the enclosure was built to perform in demanding environmental conditions while fitting within a constrained and site-specific footprint.
The structure features a crane-liftable, modular design that allows it to be relocated multiple times without compromising performance or integrity. Bolt-together construction and panelized components enable efficient on-site assembly by maintenance personnel, minimizing downtime and reducing installation complexity. Inside, ladders and two levels of interior catwalks provide safe and practical access for inspection and ongoing maintenance.
To enhance the working environment, light-transmitting wall and roof panels introduce natural daylight into the interior, improving visibility and reducing reliance on artificial lighting. The result is a highly functional, adaptable enclosure that balances protection, accessibility, and operational efficiency.
The primary challenge was designing a building that could withstand harsh environmental conditions while remaining flexible enough to be relocated as operational needs changed. The enclosure needed to fit within a limited footprint, support safe interior access for maintenance crews, and be simple enough for on-site personnel to assemble without specialized construction equipment.
Additionally, the structure had to protect sensitive electrical equipment while creating a functional interior environment that supported routine inspections and long-term maintenance. Balancing durability, modularity, and ease of assembly was critical to delivering a solution that met both immediate operational demands and future adaptability.
